New concept offers Kobe beef, lamb, seafood and veggie options, accompanied by freshly baked rolls and a slew of toppings

Gourmet Burger Grill (GBG), an innovative new restaurant concept that focuses on quality, affordability and selection, recently has opened its first location in North Central San Antonio. The fast-casual format, friendly service and sleek, contemporary décor make GBG an ideal place for quick business lunches, family-style dinners and group meetings or parties.

GBG’s extensive menu includes Certified Angus Beef (CAB) burgers, chicken and turkey burgers, salads, soups, sides and specialty burgers made of lamb, Maryland-style crab cakes, Ahi tuna, Portobello mushrooms, Kobe beef and vegetarian patties. Sourdough and whole-grain wheat rolls are baked each day to ensure each guest enjoys only the freshest ingredients available. Burger prices range from $6.95 to $12.95. A kids’ menu is also available, with choices priced at $4.99 each.

Another distinguishing characteristic of the menu is its vast array of cheeses, sauces and toppings. Twelve cheeses are offered, including camembert, Smoked Gouda and goat cheese, along with 26 sauces and toppings, ranging from basil pesto aioli and chipotle mayo to apple-smoked bacon, mango avocado salsa and fried eggs.

On a healthy note, all fried foods are prepared using no trans-fats, and each burger can be served on a lettuce wrap for a low-carbohydrate dining alternative. Finally, as an additional gourmet treat, all GBG sauces and salad dressings are made in-house from scratch.

Owner Jorge Cosio, a veteran restaurateur originally from Mexico City, drew inspiration for the GBG concept from restaurants in London, Las Vegas and New York City. He teamed with Chef Mike Davis to bring the unique restaurant to fruition. Davis, who has worked with such celebrated chefs as Emeril Lagasse and Mario Batali, has more than 20 years of experience.
